Review: Crazy Rich Asians

“Crazy Rich Asians,” directed by John H. Chu, is a hilarious

rom-com, but it has a very predictable plot. The movie takes place when couple Nick Young, played by Henry Golding, and Rachel Chu, played by Constance Wu, visit Nick’s” crazy rich” family in Singapore for his friend’s wedding but things start to take a bad turn for Nick and Rachel

“Crazy Rich Asians”, based off of a book by the the same name, is the

biggest romantic comedy in nine years, recently passing $120 million in the box office.

I did not have very high expectations for the film, but it really surprised

me by how much I enjoyed it. The comedy is hilarious, highlighted by actors Ken Jeong, Awkwafina and Jimmy O. Yang. The downside to the content of the movie was that the plot was pretty much the same as many other romantic movies.

Not only was the content of the movie great, but the visuals were

amazing. Mainly shot in Singapore and New York, the film delivers with visuals unlike many other romantic comedies. The art style combined with the locations really made the movie pop. Also, the costumes were amazing. They were colorful and vibrant, and I could almost find out a character’s personality just by their outfit.

All in all, even if you don’t expect to like the movie or don’t like romantic comedies in general, I would consider giving “Crazy Rich Asians” a try. Even though the plot is pretty predictable, it is a good movie overall that kept me watching the whole time.
