Geography Bee Battle
Just like the recent Spelling Bee, this year’s Geography Bee was a long, well-contested showdown. After a couple rounds at the beginning, the field began to quickly narrow as more and more contestants answered two questions incorrectly. After one round narrowed the field from eight competitors to three, only sixth grader Sebastian Borjas and eighth graders Jacob Hammann and Beck Oldridge. After Borjas missed his second question and placed third, only Hammann and Oldridge went into the championship, which had them answering the same set of questions and recording their answers on paper. They stayed even for an extraordinarily long time, with either both boys answering the question correctly or both missing in each round. However, when a question came up regarding the location of an ancient city in the Adriatic region of Europe, at last Oldridge missed while Hammann came up with the correct response: Croatia. This brought an end to their lengthy mano a mano struggle, and crowned Hammann the winner of this year’s Geography Bee
