Review: Blade and Timber

As pleasant as drinking hot chocolate by the fire sounds, a new place in town could get you on your feet and hurling sharp objects for fun, given you avoid being trampled by a vicious mass of teens on their way to consume fall-themed Starbucks beverages. In the midst of crunchy leaves, flannel-wearing and pumpkin spice, axe-throwing at Blade & Timber is the perfect addition to your autumnal traditions. When visiting their Lawrence location, I was pleasantly surprised not to be impaled by an axe when walking through the door, as I was at first scared of this. In fact, as soon as I walked in, I got the exact vibe they intended—rustic yet modern.

Some may be worried about safety concerns; however, Blade & Timber takes many precautions, and the worst injury one can get is a splinter. Although I was rather surprised at how brief the training was, it was still thorough, and I was not charged for the time it took to be trained. When it finally came time to throw axes, I quickly realized how fun, satisfying and addictive it is. It also becomes easy once you get the hang of it, especially with their coaching. Their staff is extremely friendly and helpful. In addition to the four lanes available for axe-throwing, they also had tables so you could bring in food and drinks and hang out. However, they do not sell food and drinks, which is a downside for those spending a few hours there. My only other contention was the fact that they only had four lanes and the room is rather small. The space could get crowded easily, which could be inconvenient if one desired to go with a group. Despite this, Blade & Timber is incredibly fun and I highly recommend it.
