"Bohemian Rhapsody"
The movie begins with a single figure in a white tank top and blue jeans waking up and traveling to a stadium. He warms up his arms as he walks up to a backstage curtain, and when it opens, the deafening sound of seventy two thousand people cheering and screaming greets him. Following right behind him, although they are not shown, are the other three members of his iconic band, Queen.
Queen doesn’t start like this, however. The movie begins with the lead singer of the band, Farrokh Bulsara, better known as Freddy Mercury, struggling to work as a baggage handler. He goes to a club, and the band playing loses their main singer. Freddy volunteers to take his place and Queen is born.
The movie follows Queen as hit after hit are created, including the title of the movie, “Bohemian Rhapsody.” It also follows Freddie Mercury as he falls deeper into a hole of drugs and relationships. The balance of music and action was perfect and the pace of the movie was very fitting throughout the movie.
While the beginning of the movie shows Freddie Mercury walking up onto the stage by himself; in the final scene of the movie the exact same scene is shown but along with Freddie, the other three members walk up with him. This is one of many intricate little details in the movie that show the band’s unification after their breakup.
As Queen grows in popularity, the movie shows the story behind songs like “Killer Queen,” “We Will Rock You,” “Another One Bites the Dust,” “We Are the Champions,” “I Want It All” and “Bohemian Rhapsody,” all while showing the conflicts and triumphs the band faced. These moving songs tell the story of one of the most legendary and iconic musical groups of all time.
