Tyler, the Creator Christmas EP

Tyler, the Creator’s Christmas album “Music Inspired by Illumination & Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch” is a good remedy for stress and a good way to get in a festive mood. It is not, however, a good playlist if you are trying to get absolutely wired before the start of a game or race. It only has six songs on it, which is a negative trait, even for a Christmas album. I also would have appreciated a Tyler version of at least a few popular christmas songs like I also noticed that Tyler himself has hardly any lyrics in most of the songs. The only song that does a good job of this would be “Big Bag,” and even then the song is not Christmas-y. Another thing that I noticed is that I have never heard of any of the people who are featured. Who has heard of Jerry Paper? Santigold? Ryan Beatty? I think that Tyler the Creator is big-time enough that he should be able to get higher profile people to feature.

The most soothing song on the whole album is “Whoville,” and it is basically Minecraft music. If you are trying to play music for a bunch of emos I would recommend “Lights On.” The thing about the majority of Tyler, the Creator songs is that it usually sounds like he is speaking a different language, and this is the case with every song on this album. I would say that songs like “Cindy Lou’s Wish,” “Hot Chocolate” and “When the Gloves Come Off” are almost as chill as “Whoville.” The one thing that was really done well in the creation of this album was the design of the album cover. It combines Tyler’s weird personality with the Grinch, which makes sense because the album is partly inspired by the Grinch. On the whole, Tyler could have made this album a lot better by just putting more effort into it.
