MS: A Deal with Death

Capital punishment, or death penalty, has mostly disappeared in the modern world, although there are still 53 countries that allow it. This includes the United States, in which 32 states authorize execution, and in the past five years, 17 of them have carried out one.

This topic has been debated throughout history in the US: should we kill the murderers of innocent people or let them sit behind bars for the rest of their lives, with the guilt of their previous choices, and no freedom? Maybe some of these killers don't feel guilt?

Deciding whether or not to get rid of capital punishment is not an easy decision. The prisoners themselves live worthless lives in prison for committing homicide, and other unthinkable acts. But on the flip side, they too are people. People who have done terrible things, but still walk, breathe and think. They should have a right to remain that way in a confined way.

There are many factors when it comes down to the big decision: is capital punishment worth it? It is extremely expensive to keep a person on death row, compared to a life sentence. Also, states that allow the death penalty have a higher crime rate than states that do not. There are more elements to this issue, and most are negative.

Overall, capital punishment has its pros and cons, but the cons outweigh the pros. The death penalty isn't effective and is inhumane. We need to teach the murderers the consequences of their actions by not ending their lives.
