Super Smash Bros Ultimate
The hype behind Nintendo’s newest installment in the line of Super Smash Bros games, “Super Smash Bros Ultimate,” is fully deserved. “Ultimate” is bigger and better than any game in the series. It is headlined by its popular promotion slogan “Everyone is Here,” which is a reference to the fact the game boasts every single playable character from previous games in the franchise. While some players might be frustrated that their favorite character did not make the roster, they might be in DLCs added along the way. Along with all of the 70+ characters, the different 100+ stages provide endless variety. On the new Nintendo Switch, the graphics are also cleaner than ever before.
The gameplay, which is simple and complex at the same time, is also worth noting. “Ultimate” is great for new players in terms of getting started playing, but after that it has a fairly steep learning curve. It takes plenty of time to learn and master all of the more advanced mechanics, and each of characters having their own unique attacks and special finishing moves makes it even more difficult to fully understand all of the ins and outs of the game.
One of the features of this game many were excited to see is the campaign mode: World of Light. This mode has so much content that it takes most players over 24 hours of play time to complete it. All playable characters except for one have been turned into spirits that the player needs to defeat in order to return them to their natural. One issue with this mode is that until the player gets to the end of the campaign, the stages are very similar, making the game mode fairly repetitive.
All in all, this a fantastic game with very few flaws, and those anticipating it will definitely not be disappointed.
