The Lovely LUV Wall

Every year during the month of February, the room of Faculty Vanessa Eicher and Cris Bryan gets transformed into a alternate dimension where teachers loves and hopes are displayed for all the students to guess which teacher is connected to which item or photo. This brilliant idea to get us through the month of February was created from the mind of Eicher, who has managed to do this wonderful event every year since she started teaching here in 2013. Themes have ranged from favorite celebrities to teenage crushes. With each year comes evermore laughter and antics. This year is no different, with each faculty member giving his or her favorite love book, movie, and song.

Eicher had some thoughts on her wall. She has done many themes, and her favorite was “when all the teacher told us what their teen heartthrob was.” Some of you might remember this by the Claire Danes poster that Mr. Pulsinelli has hung up in his room or by the poster Mr. Weaver has in his. Throughout those five years, Eicher has seen many funny and odd moments that cause everyone to laugh. “The year that people brought in their favorite things, Mrs. Bryan brought in some sparkly stiletto heels, and everyone thought they belonged to Sr. Rowe. That’s a moment I remember,” says Eicher.

Of course, Eicher would not do this year after year if she did not enjoy doing it: “I really love doing this, because I think the faculty has a lot of fun getting asked these silly questions, and I really enjoy having the students come in and guess, and I think it’s for the faculty and the students to connect, and it seems like the students really enjoy learning interesting trivia about the teachers.” And as to why she does this every year? “Well, honestly, February is a hard month to get through, so I do think it makes February, and I kind of wanted to contribute my own little tradition to the school, and I think both the faculty and the kids enjoy it,” says Eicher. Eicher also shared her thought process: that “I brainstorm. I come up with several different ideas, and then I picked the one which I thought would be the most fun.”

The faculty and student body also had some very lovely comments about Eicher’s love wall. Bryan, who shares the room with Eicher, had a comment which was short and sweet: “I think it’s entertaining. It’s always fun watching the students try and guess.”

Senior Cavan McCabe loves it because of the advantage she has going into it: “I personally love it, because I always have the inside scoop on at least three of them. Even though that doesn’t necessarily mean winning, I still at least know three of them, and it’s fun getting to see all the teacher’s crushes.”

Faculty memberBetsy Alford, who has participated in the past, had this to say: “I think it’s a lot of fun. Anything that they do that is kinda different like that, I think it’s a good thing.”

Junior Sabrina Eicher, whose mother runs the entire event, commented: “I think the love wall is a lot of fun, and I love guessing which teacher put in what, because a lot is revealed about the teachers in the process that I didn’t know beforehand.”

Faculty Doug Weaver also praised the wall, saying, “I think it’s a fabulous idea, and I always like it. All the different ideas she has had are always interesting and fun.”

What better way is there to get in the Valentine’s Day spirit then to take a crack at other teacher’s love interests? Or, in this year’s case, favorite book, movie, and song? Entities could include, but are not limited to, “Take On Me” by a-ha, “Are You Lonesome Tonight?” by Elvis Presley, any movie on the Hallmark channel (but especially the Christmas movies that play every year, such as “A Christmas Prince,” “The Mistletoe Inn” and “Love Always, Santa”) or “Fifty Shades of Grey” by E. L. James. To vote, as a quick reminder, all you have to do is go into their room (not while their having class, of course) and pick up a slip. Then, get your sluth on and try to connect teachers to their list. Once that is done, just drop it in the Box of Secrets! Voting will be open until the end of the month. Good luck!
